El corazón de Las Leonas de Argentina reapareció en todo su esplendor la noche del viernes en Pekín-2008 para conquistar por segunda vez una medalla de bronce olímpica en hockey, tras la plata ganada en Sydney-2000, al superar a Alemania por 3-1.
La victoria fue festejada con llantos de emoción y una tristeza íntima aún por no haber podido ganar el oro tan anhelado por una generación dorada de jugadoras, mientras el ídolo deportivo Diego Maradona aplaudía y gritaba en las tribunas, tras darles gran aliento luego de la derrota contra Holanda 5-2.
La mayoría de las jugadoras tuvieron la noche del viernes su última justa olímpica, como la cuatro veces mejor jugadora del mundo Luciana ''Lucha'' Aymar, también ganadora de bronce en Atenas-2004.
El primer gol lo anotó Argentina en un corner corto de Claudia Burkart, a los 11, y la escuadra sudamericana aumentó en jugada de campo Carla Rebecchi, a los 22, mientras que Alemania descontó con un remate de Anke Kuehn.
La tercera conquista de las felinas la señaló Noel Barrionuevo en otro penalty-corner, a los 63.
